On August 22nd, 2018, the annual M&A and Private Equity forum promoted by Mergermarket in São Paulo took place, with the participation of MNA Bruno H. S. Guarnieri and the foreign consultant Mark M. Cho.

Private equity - ABVCAP

On June 4 and 5, the largest private equity event in Latin America was held at the Hotel Unique in São Paulo, sponsored by ABVCAP (Brazilian Private Equity & Venture Capital Association). The office was present at the event represented by Mark M. Cho.

IT M&A Seminar

Our partner, Bruno H. S. Guarnieri, and the foreign consultant of MNA, Mark M. Cho, participated on June 19, at the IT M&A Seminar event promoted by TTR (Transactional Track Record).

The event aimed to discuss the importance and role of the information technology sector in mergers & acquisitions and the current scenario of M&A in Brazil.

ICCA - International Council for Commercial Arbitration

Our partner, Paulo Magalhães Nasser, participated in the workshop “Oral Advocacy in International Arbitration”, promoted by the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), in Rio de Janeiro.

The event took place on May 7 in Rio de Janeiro.

Congresso de Direito Processual Civil

The Congress of Civil Procedural Law promoted by OAB Santos took place on June 18.

Our civil litigation partner, Paulo Magalhães Nasser, participated in the panel on “Binding Precedents and the Impacts of Advocacy”.

AIJA - Warsaw

Between May 23rd and 26th, the Half Year Conference of the AIJA (International Association of Young Lawyers) was held in Warsaw, Poland with the theme “Corporate governance – current trends and development” organized with the support of the Partnership and M&A Committee.

We had the participation of member of the MNA partnership department, Bruno Guarnieri, in his last year in the Executive Committee of the Association, but who will also attend the event as vice president of the International Business Law committee.

Harvard Law Brazilian Association Legal Symposium

From April 16th to 20th, the Law in the 21st Century symposium was held at the Harvard Law School, with the participation of jurists from various nationalities discussing current issues in the Brazilian and North American legal scenario.

The fight against corruption; the economic analysis of the law; the impacts of artificial intelligence; and alternative forms of dispute resolution were prominent themes of the event.

Our partner Paulo Magalhães Nasser was one of the exhibitors, addressing aspects of international dispute resolution by arbitration.

Our office, following its guideline of encouraging technical and scientific deepening, was one of the sponsors of the event.

AIJA 2017 - Recife

Between March 22nd and 24th, the International Association of Young Lawyers – AIJA held an event in Recife, whose theme was “The Challenges of Compliance and Anti-Corruption”. We had the partners Bruno Guarnieri and José Mauricio Abreu (members of AIJA) as coordinators of the Organizing Committee and two of the panels of the event had as a member our partner Paulo Nasser addressing the impacts of corruption in business and litigation disputes.

IBA 2017 - Austrália

The 2017 International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference took place in Sydney, the largest city in Australia.  As one of the most multicultural and connected cities in the world, Sydney was the ideal location for the largest and most prestigious event for international lawyers, providing plenty of business and networking opportunities.

In this event we had the participation of our founding partner, J. A. Miguel Neto.

Interlegal - Inglaterra

The 2017 Congress of Interlegal took place in Leeds, England from November 1-5 and counted with the participation of our founding partner and former president of Interlegal J. A. Miguel Neto representing our office.  During the 5 days Interlegal focused its lecture sessions on Brexit and its consequences on Europe and for the rest of the world.

NYSBA 2017 - Guatemala

The NYSBA event in Guatemala took place from September 12-14, 2017, with the participation of our partner Maria Sylvia de Toledo Ridolfo who is responsible for the regulatory department at MNA.

CBar 2017

Paulo Magalhães Nasser, the head partner for the litigation and arbitration department at MNA, was a member of the XVI International Arbitration Congress, which was sponsored by the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBAr).  The event took place in Gramado, State of Rio Grande do Sul, on September 24-26, with the central theme being “Due Process in Arbitration.”  Paulo Nasser was part of an international panel entitled “Due Process of Law and Judicial Control of Arbitration Awards (Recognition and Annulment).”

AIJA 2017 - Tokyo

The International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA) is holding its 2017 congress in Tokyo, an iconic city for leading-edge technology and innovation.  The key theme this year will be “Artificial Intelligence, Technology and Innovation.”

All 20 AIJA scientific subcommittees will be organizing three days of seminars and workshops on AI and other technologies that are rapidly changing business and law.

Three MNA partners will be attending: Bruno H. S. Guarnieri (Corporate), José Mauricio C. Abreu (Tax) and Paulo Magalhães Nasser (Civil Litigation and Arbitration).

Bruno H. S. Guarnieri is a member of AIJA’s Executive Committee.

Press Conference - DIS - Neymar Case

On March 29, 2017, our client DIS held a press conference in relation to its lawsuit against Neymar Jr. and Barcelona FC, together with MNA partner Paulo Magalhães Nasser, Grupo Sonda’s president and DIS’ CEO.

BVI - Global Choice for Business

Procedural Law Conference

MNA’s civil litigation and arbitration partner Paulo Magalhães Nasser spoke at the Brazilian and Ibero-american Procedural Law conference held by Brazil’s Procedural Law Institute (IBDP) in Porto de Galinhas from September 14-16.

Over 600 Brazilians and other attendees discussed current issues relating to procedural law as part of this well-established legal event, which is held in alternating years.

Paulo Nasser was on a panel that addressed the possibility of appealing interlocutory rulings, together with professors Pedro Miranda de Oliveira (UFSC), Rafael Barbosa (UFAM), and Welder Queiroz (UFMT).

AIJA 2016 - Munich

One of the speakers was MNA Tax partner José Mauricio Abreu, who delivered a presentation on international tax transparency.

AIJA 2016 - Chicago

Partner Bruno Guarnieri was at the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA) Chicago conference from May 18-21.

The event addressed technical developments and attendees got a chance to exchange ideas and network in-between sessions on interdisciplinary matters involving real estate purchases and succession planning.

Breakfast Session - Capital Gains Tax Hike: Impacts and Alternatives

On April 12, 2016, Miguel Neto Advogados held an event to discuss the impacts of recent amendments to tax legislation introduced by Provisional Measure No. 692/15 (“MP 692”) which has been voted in Congress and is now awaiting the President’s ratification.

Attendees examined ways of structuring assets to mitigate the effects of new progressive tax rates.

MNA partner José Mauricio Carvalho Abreu coordinated the event.

Valeria Zotelli - Imperatriz, Maranhão - SEBRAE.

On March 28, 2016, MNA’s tax practice co-head Valeria Zotelli spoke at the closing session of SEBRAE’s “Financial Education Week” in Imperatriz, Maranhão.

In the presence of entrepreneurs in the trade and industry, she gave her talk on “Taxation for small and medium businesses: complying with tax legislation as a means of survival in the market.”

By taking part in events such as SEBRAE’s, MNA professionals are highlighting their key role of heightening the business community’s awareness of tax issues.

Mergermarket 2015

On September 24, the 2015 M&A and Private Equity Forum discussed the current state of this sector of business in Brazil.
